Calao provides active ingredients (APIs) to pharmaceutical companies. Calao operates in accordance with "The Rules Governing Medicinal products in the European Union" as certified by EDQM after an inspection at its site on July 2007.

Calao also acts as a CRO, coordinating the development of full registration dossiers for Marketing Authorization, from the source of APIs up to non-clinical and clinical studies (BES included).
